pop, blues, jazz, classical

Brody has been playing guitar since 2005 and has been singing in choirs since 2013. He studied pop guitar early on and transitioned to classical guitar to pursue post-secondary education at Brock University where he completed an Honour’s BMus. He now studies blues and jazz guitar with Tomo Fujita (Berklee College of Music).

Brody’s passion for learning has inspired him to collaborate with a multitude of musicians and educators. By always being open to new opportunities, he has developed a level of versatility that is always expanding.

experience & versatility

While in university, he studied with maestro Timothy Phelan and also had the privilege of learning from William Kanengiser, Matthew McAllister, and a series of other talented musician-educators hosted by the Hamilton Guitar Festival (presented annually by Emma Rush of Guitar Hamilton). He has been part of a number of world premiere performances of compositions by Timothy Phelan, Jeff McFadden, and Christopher Barletta.

Brody performed regularly on the classical guitar at weddings, dinners, and other events while studying at Brock and continues to do these performances across the Niagara region. He also has experience playing a wide range of other styles:

  • Electric and classical guitar in a 1970s-era Genesis tribute band

  • Electric guitar at jazz clubs with small ensembles

  • Accompanying instrumentalists and singers on both classical and acoustic guitar

  • Original music for voice and acoustic guitar

  • Electric bass and electric guitar in pit bands for musical theatre productions such as “Rent” and “Little Shop of Horrors”

  • Electric bass and songwriter for the indie-rock band Fast Times

  • Chorister in Avanti Chamber Singers, Newark Singers, and a local church choir

education

Brody is very passionate about education, and shares his love of learning with his guitar students. He studied education at York University where he earned a B.Ed specializing in secondary school music and business, and is in good standing as an Ontario Certified Teacher. He strives to continue to learn and grow as a musician, and shares his continual growth with his private students. He teaches with an emphasis on motivation and good practice technique which helps his students develop independence as learners and human beings. Brody focuses his teaching and learning on the individual, creating personal connections with his students.

collaboration

Brody has performed with a variety of multi-disciplinary artists and instrumentalists across a number of genres. On his upcoming full release of “little prayers” he will feature cello, bass, drums, voice, a full array of strings, and much more. Musicians from Niagara, Brooklyn, and LA will be showcased on this project. Since studying at an intimate music program at Brock University, Brody has found that collaboration always leads to inspiration.
